Project Greenlight Digital Studios (PGLDS), GLAAD and Section II have announced, during a special panel at Outfest 2016, their collaboration for a new contest dedicated to webseries titled See yourself and focused on LGBTQ filmmakers and content. The goal of the contest is to improve the poor statistics of LGBTQ presence on television and in film, creating funding, production and distribution opportunities for a series focused on relevant themes for the LGBTQ community.
Trying in this way to create new opportunities for groups that are commonly under-represented in media. Moreover, the partnership of these organizations consolidates a strong bond between the entertainment industry and the LGBTQ community. In fact, PGLDS is a creative community that empowers the next generation of filmmakers; Section II is a streaming platform that acquires, creates and showcases LGBTQ films and series; and GLAAD is an organization that aspires to guarantee a fair and accurate cover and the representation of LGBTQ individuals in all the media, promoting acceptance, understanding and equality. The contest See Yourself opens registration on August 2, 2016. Contestants will be able to send a 1-2 minutes pitches, the genre can vary from comedy to drama, from horror to documentary by August 19, 2016 at 23:59. They will arrive in the semifinals twenty projects, from which the five finalists will be chosen. The winning series will be announced on September 19 and will receive 5000 dollars funding and assistance to the production and distribution from PGLDS and Section II.
